Labeled Rj Horner Antique Stripe Mahogany Chair Hand Carved Gothic Dragons
A remarkable labeled antique (late 1800s to 1900), parlor chair by RJ Horner Furniture Company. Solid mahogany with Tiger Striped Grain on the contoured backrest.
Large, carved, winged dragons/griffins with ornately scrolled bodies, are featured on the pediment. The arms feature carved and scrolled hand rests. The arm supports, legs and stretcher are turned wood. It has carved, ball and claw/talon feet. The chair is pegged construction.
The pegs are LARGE and are integrated into the design. They are visible on the lower chair back and at the legs. The seat is planked with a recessed center and rounded front. There is an aged sticker under the seat. It is very faded but is marked "RJ Horner". The chair is sturdy and in very nice condition. There are minor scuffs and minor evidence of use on the seat.
