Exceptional antique quarter sawn oak Winged Lion (or Griffin/Griffon/Gryphon) console/parlor table! Pieces like this are becoming more and more rare and noteworthy. Extremely well carved with detailed faces (teeth and tongues) and wings.

An outstanding piece for sculpture display, a lavish floral display, or a worthy lamp. Probably made in the U. At the turn of the century, late 1800s. There are many artistic interpretations of winged lions (or griffins).

This table is supported by three ferocious creatures that have lion heads and long wings. Slit in top of table may be a join that separated slightly over time. Smaller modified triangle-shaped lower shelf. One edge of lower shelf is loose in slot; this does not appear to be damage. Tabletop is just over 20" in diameter, and figures extend out about 2" further increasing diameter of table to about 24. Weight is approximately 25 lbs. From a smoke free home.
